Drug intelligence / Profile preview
AFX-002 is a preclinical-stage cell therapy being developed by AffyXell Therapeutics, a joint venture between Avacta Group and Daewoong Pharmaceutical, for the treatment of Multiple Sclerosis (MS). The therapy utilizes AffyXell's proprietary AFX platform, which combines Daewoong's mesenchymal stem cell (MSC) technology with Avacta's Affimer® platform—a non-antibody binding protein technology. The active ingredient consists of genetically engineered mesenchymal stem cells that express or secrete Affimer proteins designed to modulate immune and inflammatory responses. The mechanism of action involves enhancing the immunomodulation function of MSCs through Affimer proteins to restore immunologic balance and address autoimmune diseases. As a cell and gene therapy modality, AFX-002 represents a next-generation approach to treating inflammatory and autoimmune conditions by targeting the fundamental causes of immune system dysregulation.
