Overview

AG-06 and AG-07 are early-stage research compounds developed by Agouron Pharmaceuticals (now a subsidiary of Pfizer) during the late 1990s. These molecules were investigated as part of a program focused on the development of novel HIV protease inhibitors. The combination was designed to leverage the synergistic effects of two distinct chemical entities to inhibit the HIV-1 protease enzyme, which is essential for the viral replication cycle. By binding to the active site of the protease, these compounds prevent the cleavage of polyprotein precursors into functional viral proteins, thereby resulting in the production of immature, non-infectious virions. While these specific codes appeared in early pharmacological studies and patent literature, they did not progress to late-stage clinical development or commercialization, as they were superseded by more potent and pharmacokinetically optimized candidates like nelfinavir.
