AG-702 is a therapeutic vaccine developed as an immunostimulant, specifically designed to target herpes simplex virus type 2 (HSV-2). It consists of a noncovalent complex between an HLA A*0201-restricted epitope from the glycoprotein B protein of HSV-2 (gB2) and truncated human constitutive heat shock protein 70. The vaccine was intended to prime or boost CD8 T-cell responses in both HSV-naïve and HSV-2-infected individuals. Clinical studies demonstrated that AG-702 was safe and well tolerated, but it did not elicit new or boosted immune responses to the targeted HSV-2 epitope at the doses studied. Its development has been discontinued[1].
