Overview

AG0302 is a plasmid DNA vaccine candidate developed by AnGes, Inc., in collaboration with Osaka University and Takara Bio, intended for the prevention of COVID-19. The vaccine utilizes a circular DNA plasmid that encodes the spike protein of the SARS-CoV-2 virus. Upon intramuscular administration, the plasmid enters host cells where the spike protein is expressed, subsequently priming the immune system to recognize and combat the actual virus. Development of AG0302 reached Phase 2/3 clinical trials; however, in September 2022, AnGes announced the termination of the project due to the vaccine's inability to meet primary endpoints for immunogenicity and efficacy in comparison to established mRNA-based vaccines.
