AG1000

AG1000 is a transdermal contraceptive patch under development by Agile Therapeutics that delivers levonorgestrel only, designed specifically for women who are breastfeeding or who cannot use estrogen-containing contraceptives. It is intended to provide long-acting reversible contraception via sustained systemic exposure to the progestin levonorgestrel, which primarily prevents pregnancy by inhibiting ovulation, thickening cervical mucus to block sperm penetration, and altering the endometrium to reduce the likelihood of implantation. AG1000 is positioned as a progestin-only, estrogen-free alternative to combined hormonal patches, leveraging Agile’s patch technology to maintain consistent hormone levels while avoiding estrogen-related risks.[13]
