Agaricus blazei Murill extract is a dietary supplement derived from an edible Brazilian mushroom that has been investigated for its potential chemopreventive, antineoplastic, and immunomodulatory activities. [2] The extract is rich in bioactive components, particularly polysaccharides like beta-glucans, which are often standardized in commercial products. [2, 8] It is believed to exert its effects by modulating the immune system, including promoting dendritic cell maturation, enhancing natural killer (NK) cell activity, and inducing a Th1-predominant immune response. [2, 3] It has also been shown to affect signaling pathways like PI3K/AKT and MAPK and inhibit tumor-induced angiogenesis. [1] Clinical and preclinical studies have explored its use in a variety of conditions, including cancer, type 2 diabetes, inflammatory bowel disease (Crohn's disease, ulcerative colitis), and chronic hepatitis. [3, 4, 5, 15] While widely used as a supplement, it has also been formally investigated in clinical trials for therapeutic purposes. [4, 5, 6]
