Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Agasthyarasayanam (also known as Agasthya Rasayanam or Agastya Haritaki Rasayana) is a classical Ayurvedic polyherbal formulation prepared as a semi-solid paste (lehyam/avaleha). Named after the legendary sage Agastya, it is documented in authoritative Ayurvedic texts such as the Charaka Samhita and Ashtanga Hrudayam. The formulation is primarily used to support respiratory health, acting as an antitussive, expectorant, and bronchodilator. It is widely prescribed for conditions such as bronchial asthma, chronic cough, bronchitis, allergic rhinitis, and sinusitis. In addition to its respiratory benefits, Agasthyarasayanam serves as a rejuvenating tonic (rasayana) that boosts immunity, improves digestion, and combats general debility. Key ingredients include Haritaki (Terminalia chebula), Pippali (Piper longum), Yava (Hordeum vulgare), and Dashamoola, blended with jaggery, sesame oil, ghee, and honey.
