Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Age Gard OD is a topical dermatological formulation developed and marketed by VTS Life Sciences, primarily indicated for the treatment of hyperpigmentation disorders such as melasma, solar lentigines (age spots), and post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation. The formulation typically features a combination of skin-brightening agents, most notably octadecenedioic acid (often referred to by the trade name Mediatone), which acts as a peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor gamma (PPAR-gamma) agonist to downregulate tyrosinase mRNA expression. Additionally, the product often contains nonapeptide-1, a biomimetic peptide that functions as a melanocortin-1 receptor (MC1R) antagonist to block the pigment-stimulating effects of alpha-melanocyte-stimulating hormone (alpha-MSH). By targeting multiple steps in the melanogenesis pathway, Age Gard OD helps to reduce melanin production and promote a more even skin tone. It is designed for once-daily topical application as part of a comprehensive skincare regimen.
