Overview
Ageratum conyzoides extract (ACE) is a standardized botanical extract derived from the annual herbaceous plant *Ageratum conyzoides*. Developed by Integrated Health Group Pty. Ltd., it is being investigated as an oral treatment for symptoms of benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH). The extract's primary mechanism of action involves the inhibition of 5-alpha-reductase type 2, an enzyme critical for converting testosterone into dihydrotestosterone (DHT). By reducing DHT levels, ACE suppresses androgen receptor signaling and downstream pathways that drive prostate cell proliferation and enlargement. Preclinical evidence suggests it improves prostate weight and epithelial thickness, while clinical studies have evaluated its efficacy in men with BPH symptoms.
