Overview

Aggripal (also marketed as Agrippal or Agriflu) is a trivalent inactivated influenza vaccine (TIV) developed by Seqirus (formerly Novartis). It is an egg-derived, unadjuvanted subunit vaccine containing purified surface antigens—hemagglutinin (HA) and neuraminidase—from three seasonal influenza virus strains (typically two A subtypes and one B lineage) as recommended annually by the World Health Organization. Each 0.5 mL dose is standardized to contain 15 µg of HA per strain. The vaccine works by inducing humoral immunity, specifically stimulating the production of neutralizing IgG antibodies against the viral hemagglutinin, which prevents the virus from attaching to and entering host cells. It is indicated for the active immunization against seasonal influenza in both pediatric and adult populations.
