Agkistrodon acutus antivenin is an equine-derived biologic therapeutic developed by Jiangxi Institute of Biological Products for the treatment of envenomation caused by bites from the Agkistrodon acutus (hundred-pace snake or five-pace viper). The antivenom consists of purified immunoglobulin antibodies or antibody fragments that specifically bind to and neutralize toxic components of the snake's venom, including hemorrhagic metalloproteinases, phospholipases A2, and enzymes that disrupt coagulation. By neutralizing these toxins, the antivenin prevents or mitigates severe clinical symptoms such as acute hemorrhage, edema, coagulopathy, and tissue necrosis. It is administered via intravenous infusion and has been evaluated in Phase 1 clinical trials to assess safety, pharmacokinetics, and immunogenicity in healthy volunteers.
