AGN-199201 is a synthetic retinoid and a selective agonist of the retinoic acid receptor gamma (RARγ). Developed by Allergan, the compound was designed to target the primary RAR isoform found in human skin, which plays a crucial role in regulating keratinocyte proliferation and differentiation. By binding to RARγ, AGN-199201 modulates the transcription of retinoid-responsive genes, leading to effects such as reduced comedone formation and decreased inflammatory responses.
