Drug intelligence / Profile preview
agomiR-206 is a chemically modified, synthetic double-stranded RNA mimetic of microRNA-206 (miR-206). It is designed to mimic endogenous mature miR-206, facilitating gain-of-function studies in vitro and in vivo. miR-206 is a key post-transcriptional regulator implicated in myogenesis, osteogenesis, and various pathological conditions. By binding to the 3' untranslated regions (3' UTRs) of target mRNAs, agomiR-206 suppresses the translation or induces the degradation of several key proteins, including gap junction alpha-1 protein (Connexin 43), brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF), DNA methyltransferase 3 alpha (DNMT3A), bone morphogenetic protein 3 (BMP3), and nuclear factor of activated T-cells, cytoplasmic 1 (NFATc1). In preclinical research, agomiR-206 has been investigated for its therapeutic potential in attenuating fibrous dysplasia, promoting bone regeneration in orofacial bone deformities, and regulating infantile hemangioma, depression, and Alzheimer's disease.
