Overview

AGS-v is a synthetic peptide vaccine designed to provide broad protection against multiple mosquito-borne diseases by targeting proteins found in mosquito saliva rather than specific pathogens. The vaccine contains four synthetic peptides derived from the salivary glands of Anopheles gambiae mosquitoes, which are also conserved in Aedes and Culex species. By inducing an immune response to these salivary proteins, AGS-v aims to reduce the risk of infection from a wide range of mosquito-transmitted diseases such as malaria, dengue, Zika, chikungunya, and yellow fever. The mechanism involves stimulating both humoral (antibody-mediated) and cellular immune responses that may neutralize or modify the host's reaction to mosquito bites and potentially interfere with pathogen transmission[1][2][5]. Developed initially by SEEK (now part of Imutex), clinical trials have demonstrated safety and immunogenicity in healthy adults[1][2][9].
