AGT003

AGT003 is a recombinant protein therapeutic developed by Angiotensin Therapeutics for the treatment of COVID-19. It consists of a soluble form of the human Angiotensin-converting enzyme 2 (ACE2) receptor. AGT003 functions through a dual mechanism: it acts as a 'decoy' receptor by binding to the SARS-CoV-2 spike protein, thereby preventing the virus from attaching to and entering host cells, and it maintains enzymatic activity to convert Angiotensin II into Angiotensin (1-7). This enzymatic action helps to rebalance the renin-angiotensin system (RAS), potentially mitigating the severe inflammatory response and lung injury associated with COVID-19 infection. The drug is part of Angiotensin Therapeutics' pipeline of RAS-modulating protein therapeutics.
