AGuIX + Rose Bengal is an investigational combination therapy that merges the properties of AGuIX nanoparticles and the photosensitizer Rose Bengal for enhanced cancer treatment. AGuIX are ultrasmall gadolinium-based nanoparticles designed as theranostic agents, providing both MRI contrast enhancement and radiosensitization to improve the efficacy of radiotherapy by selectively accumulating in tumors and amplifying radiation-induced damage[6][1]. Rose Bengal is a xanthene dye with established use as a diagnostic agent, but it also acts as a photosensitizer in photodynamic therapy (PDT), generating reactive oxygen species upon light activation to induce cytotoxicity in tumor cells[4][5]. The combination aims to leverage the tumor-targeting, imaging, and radiosensitizing capabilities of AGuIX with the photodynamic effects of Rose Bengal for synergistic anti-cancer activity. This approach is under preclinical investigation for various solid tumors.
