AGX-1009

**AGX-1009** is a next-generation nucleotide reverse transcriptase inhibitor (NtRTI) prodrug of tenofovir developed for the treatment of chronic hepatitis B virus (HBV) infection, particularly in patients resistant to current therapies. It features a novel molecular side-chain for activation, aiming for improved efficacy and once-daily oral dosing. Initially developed by Australian biotech company Agenix Limited, preclinical studies were completed in collaboration with Chinese institutions, with plans for a Phase 1 trial in China around 2013-2014 supported by Chinese government funds for new drugs; however, the asset was sold to Cinkate Pharmaceuticals in 2014, after which no further clinical progress is documented.[1][2][3][4][5]
