AgX100

AgX100 is an iodine-125 (I-125) radioactive brachytherapy seed used for the treatment of localized prostate cancer. Manufactured by Theragenics Corporation and distributed by Accelyon (now BXTA), the device consists of tiny titanium capsules containing the radioisotope iodine-125, which are permanently implanted into the prostate gland. It delivers low-dose rate (LDR) brachytherapy, providing localized radiation that targets tumor tissue while minimizing damage to surrounding healthy organs. The iodine-125 isotope has a half-life of approximately 60 days, after which the radioactivity reduces significantly and the seeds remain inert in the body. The device is characterized according to AAPM Task Group 43 protocols for precise dosimetric delivery.
