Overview

AH1206 is a live biotherapeutic product consisting of a specific strain of the bacterium *Bifidobacterium longum*. Developed by Alimentary Health Ltd, it has been evaluated in clinical trials for the treatment of irritable bowel syndrome (IBS). The mechanism of action involves the modulation of the host's gut microbiota and the regulation of the mucosal immune system. Specifically, AH1206 is thought to promote an anti-inflammatory environment within the gastrointestinal tract by influencing cytokine production, such as increasing the levels of the anti-inflammatory cytokine interleukin-10 and potentially reducing pro-inflammatory markers like tumor necrosis factor. It was studied in a Phase 2, double-blind, randomized, placebo-controlled trial to assess its safety and efficacy in improving IBS symptoms in adult women, utilizing a 7-point Likert global improvement scale.
