AHB-137 is a novel, unconjugated antisense oligonucleotide (ASO) developed using AusperBio's proprietary Med-Oligo ASO technology platform. It is designed to achieve a functional cure for chronic hepatitis B virus (HBV) infection by targeting a highly conserved sequence near the 3’ end of HBV mRNA, thereby inhibiting viral replication and reducing hepatitis B surface antigen (HBsAg) levels. The drug operates via a dual-mechanism approach and has demonstrated potent efficacy in preclinical studies as well as in Phase 1/2a and Phase IIb clinical trials, with significant rates of HBsAg loss and seroconversion among treated patients. AHB-137 has shown a favorable safety profile with mostly mild to moderate adverse events such as injection site reactions and fever. It received Breakthrough Therapy Designation from the NMPA in China based on promising clinical data[2][5][6][7][8][9][10].
