Drug intelligence / Profile preview
AIC090027 is an investigational oral small molecule antiviral developed by AiCuris for the prevention and treatment of human cytomegalovirus (HCMV) infection and reactivation. It was specifically studied for prophylaxis in HCMV-seropositive allogeneic human blood precursor cell (HBPC) transplant recipients. The compound is characterized by a novel mechanism of action that is distinct from traditional DNA polymerase inhibitors, although its specific molecular target has not been publicly disclosed. A Phase 2 clinical trial (NCT04345107) evaluating three dose levels of AIC090027 over 12 weeks was initiated in Germany but was subsequently terminated by the sponsor.
