Overview

AIC263029 is a potent and selective antisense oligonucleotide (ASO) developed by AiCuris for the treatment of BK virus (BKV) infection, specifically in kidney transplant recipients. BKV is a polyomavirus that often reactivates in immunocompromised patients, potentially leading to BKV-associated nephropathy (BKVAN) and subsequent graft loss. AIC263029 is designed to bind to specific sequences of the BKV mRNA, particularly targeting the early gene region that encodes the Large T-antigen, which is essential for viral DNA replication. By inhibiting the translation of these critical viral proteins, the drug suppresses viral replication and reduces BKV viremia. It is currently being evaluated in a Phase 2/3 clinical trial and is administered via weekly subcutaneous injections.
