AIDSVAX B

**AIDSVAX B** is an investigational monovalent recombinant protein-subunit HIV-1 vaccine originally developed at Genentech and subsequently advanced by VaxGen. It contains recombinant HIV-1 subtype B envelope glycoprotein gp120 derived from the MN strain and was designed to induce gp120-binding and virus-neutralizing antibody responses that could prevent HIV-1 attachment and entry into susceptible host cells. AIDSVAX B was an early predecessor of the bivalent AIDSVAX B/B and AIDSVAX B/E vaccine products; it is not the same product as either bivalent formulation. Development of the AIDSVAX program did not result in an approved HIV vaccine.
