Overview
Aimiduoer hydrochloride is a novel small molecule antiviral agent developed for the treatment of chronic hepatitis B virus (HBV) infection. Originally designed by researchers at Shenyang Pharmaceutical University, it is a structural derivative of the broad-spectrum antiviral drug umifenovir (Arbidol). Aimiduoer functions as an HBV capsid assembly modulator (CAM), specifically targeting the HBV core protein (HBcAg). By binding to the core protein, it interferes with the proper assembly of the viral nucleocapsid, which is essential for the encapsidation of pregenomic RNA and subsequent viral DNA synthesis. This disruption effectively inhibits the replication of HBV and the production of infectious virions. The drug has been advanced into clinical trials in China in collaboration with Guangzhou Boji Pharmaceutical.
