Overview
AIMSPRO is a biologic drug developed by Daval International Limited, consisting of a hyperimmune caprine (goat) serum derivative. The serum is produced by immunizing goats with an HIV-1 lysate, resulting in a product containing polyclonal antibodies and other serum factors. AIMSPRO is believed to exert its therapeutic effects through a tri-partite functionality: targeting the hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal (HPA) axis, modulating pro-inflammatory cytokines, and lowering the triggering voltage of sodium channels, which may improve nerve conduction in demyelinated axons. It has been primarily investigated in Phase II clinical trials for the treatment of overactive bladder and other symptoms in patients with secondary progressive multiple sclerosis (SPMS), as well as for systemic sclerosis (scleroderma). The drug has also received orphan drug designation from the Australian Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA) for Krabbe's disease. It is administered as a subcutaneous injection.
