Air O2 is a conventional medical gas mixture consisting of atmospheric air and supplemental oxygen. In the context of clinical research at University College London, it was utilized as a standard-of-care control comparator against Heliox21 (a helium-oxygen mixture) for patients experiencing respiratory insufficiency following extubation from mechanical ventilation in the intensive care unit. The mixture is used to provide non-invasive ventilatory support, with oxygen concentrations titrated to match the patient's clinical requirements to maintain adequate arterial oxygenation and prevent hypoxemia.
