Overview
Airbufo Forspiro (VR090) is a generic, fixed-dose combination therapy containing the inhaled corticosteroid (ICS) budesonide and the long-acting beta2-agonist (LABA) formoterol fumarate dihydrate. Developed by Vectura in collaboration with Sandoz, it is a generic version of AstraZeneca's Symbicort Turbohaler. The drug is delivered via the Forspiro device, a multi-dose dry powder inhaler (DPI) that features a dose counter and a visual check to confirm dose delivery, designed to improve patient adherence and ease of use. Budesonide acts as an anti-inflammatory agent by binding to glucocorticoid receptors, while formoterol functions as a bronchodilator by selectively stimulating beta2-adrenergic receptors in the bronchial smooth muscle. It is primarily indicated for the maintenance treatment of asthma and the symptomatic treatment of severe chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD).
