AJ-024

AJ-024 is an investigational oral small molecule antimicrobial being developed by A&J Science. It is a nitroimidazole derivative of micrococcin P2, a 26-membered thiopeptide antibiotic. Thiopeptides are sulfur-rich, structurally complex substances known for potent antibacterial activity, typically by inhibiting bacterial protein synthesis. AJ-024 is specifically designed to treat intestinal infections, with its primary development focus on *Clostridioides difficile* infections (CDI). It has demonstrated potent in vitro activity against various *C. difficile* strains, including hypervirulent ribotypes like 027, and shows favorable safety and pharmacokinetic profiles compared to standard treatments like vancomycin. Additionally, it is being explored for its activity against *Mycobacterium avium subspecies paratuberculosis* (MAP).
