AJMUC1 CAR-T cells are an autologous chimeric antigen receptor (CAR) T-cell therapy designed to target Mucin 1 (MUC1), a transmembrane glycoprotein that is frequently overexpressed and aberrantly glycosylated in various epithelial malignancies, including breast cancer. Developed by Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hospital at Sun Yat-sen University, this cell therapy involves the genetic modification of a patient's own T cells to express a CAR specific to the MUC1 antigen. Upon re-infusion, these engineered cells recognize and bind to MUC1-positive tumor cells, triggering T-cell activation and subsequent tumor cell lysis. The program is primarily being evaluated for safety, toxicity, and in vivo expansion in patients with MUC1-positive advanced, recurrent, or metastatic breast cancer who have failed standard treatments.
