Drug intelligence / Profile preview
AK-119 is a novel oral small molecule agonist of the Sphingosine-1-Phosphate receptor subtype-1 (S1P1), developed by Akaal Pharma. It is primarily being investigated for the treatment of multiple sclerosis (MS), neuropathic pain, and pruritus associated with atopic dermatitis. Unlike first-generation S1P receptor modulators like fingolimod, AK-119 has demonstrated a differentiated safety profile in Phase I clinical trials, showing no evidence of bradycardia, dyspnoea, or severe immune suppression. Preclinical studies in MS models suggest that AK-119 maintains therapeutic efficacy while offering a superior safety margin.
