AK-1225 is an investigational small molecule developed by Akanocure Pharmaceuticals that functions as a protein-protein interaction (PPI) modulator targeting Acetyl-CoA Carboxylase (ACC). ACC is a rate-limiting enzyme in the de novo lipogenesis pathway, which is frequently upregulated in cancer cells to support rapid proliferation and survival under metabolic stress. By inhibiting ACC through the modulation of its protein-protein interactions, AK-1225 aims to disrupt the metabolic plasticity required for tumor growth and metastatic progression. The development of AK-1225 is focused on hard-to-treat and metastatic cancers and is conducted in collaboration with the National Cancer Institute (NCI).
