AK001

AK001 is a monoclonal antibody developed for the treatment of severe inflammatory and allergic diseases, particularly those characterized by excess activity of mast cells and eosinophils. It selectively targets Sialic acid-binding Ig-like lectin 8 (Siglec-8), a receptor predominantly found on the surface of eosinophils and mast cells. By binding to Siglec-8, AK001 inhibits mast-cell inflammatory signaling and promotes the removal of tissue-based eosinophils, thereby reducing inflammation. This mechanism bypasses redundant cytokine signaling pathways without directly affecting other immune cells. AK001 was primarily investigated for conditions such as nasal polyposis (nasal polyps) and hypersensitivity disorders but development in these indications has been discontinued[1][2][3][5].
