Drug intelligence / Profile preview
AK20 (also known as AK-20) is a potent and selective small molecule agonist of the sphingosine-1-phosphate receptor 1 (S1P1), developed by Akaal Pharma. It is specifically designed as a topical formulation for the treatment of inflammatory skin diseases, such as psoriasis and atopic dermatitis. By activating S1P1 receptors, AK20 modulates the trafficking of lymphocytes and inhibits the release of pro-inflammatory cytokines, thereby reducing skin inflammation without the systemic side effects typically associated with oral S1P modulators. The drug has been investigated in preclinical and early clinical studies to evaluate its safety, tolerability, and efficacy in dermatological indications, aiming to provide a localized therapeutic effect with minimal systemic exposure.
