Overview

AKBM-3031 is a krill-derived phospholipid concentrate developed by Aker BioMarine in collaboration with the Lupus Research Alliance. It is specifically investigated for the treatment of systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) to address the omega-3 fatty acid deficiency associated with the condition. Unlike traditional fish oil, AKBM-3031 provides eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) and docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) in a phospholipid form, which is hypothesized to improve cellular uptake and integration into cell membranes, thereby modulating inflammatory responses. The product was evaluated in a Phase 2 clinical trial (NCT03626311) to assess its efficacy in reducing disease activity in SLE patients.
