Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Akistan is an ophthalmic eye drop solution containing latanoprost (50 micrograms/ml), a prostaglandin F2α analog. Developed and marketed by Pharmaselect International, it is indicated for the reduction of elevated intraocular pressure in patients with open-angle glaucoma and ocular hypertension. The drug functions as a selective agonist of the prostanoid FP receptor, which enhances the uveoscleral outflow of aqueous humor from the eye into the bloodstream. It is approved for use in adults and pediatric patients, including infants, and is typically administered once daily, preferably in the evening.
