Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Akkermansia muciniphila EB-AMDK 10 is a research-stage live biotherapeutic product (LBP) consisting of a specific strain of the Gram-negative, strictly anaerobic, mucin-degrading bacterium *Akkermansia muciniphila* isolated from the human gut. Developed by EverBiome, the strain is being investigated for its potential in treating obesity and metabolic dysregulation, including dyslipidemia and insulin resistance. EB-AMDK 10 demonstrates potent anti-lipogenic and anti-adipogenic activities, effectively suppressing intracellular lipid accumulation in adipocytes. In preclinical high-fat diet (HFD) mouse models, administration of the strain has been shown to prevent body weight gain, improve glucose homeostasis, restore gut barrier integrity, and inhibit low-grade intestinal inflammation. The strain's therapeutic effects are thought to be mediated through the modulation of the gut microbial population and the regulation of inflammatory pathways involving IL-6 and TLR4.
