Overview

**Akkermansia muciniphila EB-AMDK 19** is a specific probiotic bacterial strain of the species *Akkermansia muciniphila*, isolated from the feces of healthy Koreans. EB-AMDK 19 has been evaluated primarily in preclinical research as a next-generation probiotic for its capacity to modulate immune response and gut health. Heat-killed Akkermansia muciniphila EB-AMDK 19 (referred to as AMDK19-HK) demonstrated beneficial effects in a mouse model of allergic asthma: oral administration improved allergic airway inflammation, reduced inflammatory cell infiltration, decreased Th2 cytokine expression, increased short-chain fatty acid (SCFA) production, and improved intestinal mucosal barrier function. The primary proposed mechanism involves decreasing Th2-mediated immune responses and modulating gut immune and metabolic environment. EB-AMDK 19 is not currently an approved pharmaceutical but is studied as a live biotherapeutic/probiotic agent for immune and gastrointestinal modulation[4].
