Overview

AKL1 is a patented botanical formulation developed as an add-on therapy for chronic respiratory conditions, including asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). The mixture consists of standardized extracts from three plants: *Picrorhiza kurroa* (enriched for the phytochemical apocynin), *Ginkgo biloba* (standardized for ginkgo flavone glycosides), and *Zingiber officinale* (standardized for gingerols). AKL1 is designed to target inflammatory pathways and oxidative stress in the airways, primarily through the inhibition of NADPH oxidase by its apocynin component. Clinical evaluation in randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled pilot trials has shown trends toward improvement in patient-centered outcomes, such as asthma control and cough-related quality of life, although significant improvements in objective lung function measures like FEV1 and Peak Expiratory Flow have not been consistently demonstrated in small cohorts.
