Overview

Aknicare is a topical treatment line developed by General Topics S.r.l. for the management of acne vulgaris. Unlike traditional antibiotics or retinoids, it utilizes a synergistic combination of triethyl citrate, ethyl linoleate, and salicylic acid to target the four main causes of acne: seborrhea, hyperkeratinization, bacterial colonization by *Cutibacterium acnes*, and inflammation. Triethyl citrate is hydrolyzed by bacterial lipases into citric acid, lowering the follicular pH to inhibit lipase activity and bacterial growth. Ethyl linoleate acts as a 5-alpha-reductase inhibitor to reduce sebum production and prevent follicular plugging. The formulation often includes GT-peptide-10, an antimicrobial peptide that further reduces bacterial load without inducing antibiotic resistance. It is classified as a medical device in many jurisdictions, including the European Union, where it is CE-marked.
