Overview

Aknicare Cream is a topical combination product developed by General Topics for the treatment of mild to moderate acne vulgaris. The formulation utilizes a synergistic blend of triethyl citrate and ethyl linoleate, which are hydrolyzed by skin esterases into citric acid and linoleic acid. This process lowers the skin's pH and inhibits the 5-alpha-reductase enzyme, effectively reducing sebum production and creating an environment unfavorable for *Cutibacterium acnes* colonization. The cream also contains GT peptide-10, an antimicrobial peptide that targets acne-causing bacteria, and 0.5% salicylic acid, which provides keratolytic action to prevent pore blockage. Additional components include zinc lactate for its anti-inflammatory and anti-seborrheic properties, and hyaluronic acid to maintain skin hydration and barrier integrity. It is often evaluated as an adjuvant therapy to standard retinoid treatments such as adapalene.
