Drug intelligence / Profile preview
AKP01 is a topical spray formulation of the vitamin D analogue calcipotriol, developed using Lipidor’s patented lipid-based AKVANO technology to deliver 50 µg/g calcipotriol as a cutaneous solution for the treatment of mild to moderate plaque psoriasis.[3][5][9][13] By activating the vitamin D receptor in keratinocytes, calcipotriol modulates gene transcription to normalize epidermal proliferation and differentiation and exert anti-inflammatory effects in psoriatic lesions.[5][13] AKP01 is designed as a “monoproduct” containing only calcipotriol as the active substance but in a sprayable lipid vehicle intended to improve dosing precision, cosmetic acceptability, and patient adherence compared with conventional ointments.[3][5][9][13] Lipidor develops AKP01 in collaboration with Cerbios-Pharma, with clinical development including a multicenter, randomized, observer-blind, placebo-controlled phase III study demonstrating therapeutic equivalence to a marketed calcipotriol ointment in reducing Psoriasis Area and Severity Index (PASI) scores and showing good local tolerability over 8 weeks of treatment.[3][5][8][13]
