Overview

Akrivario is a fixed-dose combination inhalation therapy developed and marketed by the Russian pharmaceutical company Akrikhin. It consists of salmeterol, a long-acting beta2-adrenergic agonist (LABA), and fluticasone propionate, a potent synthetic corticosteroid. Salmeterol acts by selectively stimulating beta2-adrenoceptors in the lungs, leading to prolonged bronchodilation and relief of airway obstruction. Fluticasone propionate exerts anti-inflammatory effects by binding to glucocorticoid receptors, thereby reducing the recruitment and activation of inflammatory cells in the airways. This combination is primarily indicated for the long-term maintenance treatment of asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) where the use of a combination product is appropriate. It is typically administered via inhalation of a dry powder, often provided in capsules for use with a specific inhaler device.
