Overview

AKS-130 is a novel insulin-Fc fusion protein developed by Akston Biosciences. It was designed as a long-acting insulin analog that acts as a modest agonist of the insulin receptor (IR). AKS-130 lowers blood glucose levels without causing clinical hypoglycemia, and it has been investigated for its potential to target and downregulate insulin receptors in cancer cells. Preclinical studies have demonstrated that AKS-130 downregulates IR expression and partially blocks downstream PI3K/Akt signaling, suppressing tumor growth in xenograft models of colorectal cancer, malignant melanoma, and estrogen receptor-positive (ER+) breast cancer.
