Overview

AKS-548d is an Ambifect Fc-fusion protein therapeutic developed by Akston Biosciences for the treatment of chronic pain in dogs, particularly pain associated with osteoarthritis. The drug utilizes Akston's proprietary Ambifect platform to create a species-specific, long-acting biologic that binds to and neutralizes nerve growth factor (NGF). NGF is a signaling protein that is significantly elevated during inflammatory conditions and plays a key role in increasing pain sensitivity and inflammation. By sequestering NGF, AKS-548d inhibits the activation of pain pathways. This fusion protein approach is designed to provide a cost-effective and durable alternative to traditional monoclonal antibodies for veterinary use.
