Drug intelligence / Profile preview
AKS-562c is a long-acting, once-weekly glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) receptor agonist developed by Akston Biosciences for the treatment of feline obesity. The drug is a recombinant fusion protein constructed using Akston's proprietary Ambifect Fc-fusion platform, which is designed to extend the therapeutic half-life and enable infrequent dosing. AKS-562c acts as a GLP-1 receptor agonist, mimicking the effects of the native GLP-1 hormone to regulate appetite, reduce food intake, and slow gastric emptying. It is intended for use as an adjunct to nutritional management for weight loss in cats. Preclinical studies in laboratory cats demonstrated safety and efficacy in limiting food intake, and the drug is currently undergoing clinical evaluation in client-owned overweight and obese cats at Cornell University College of Veterinary Medicine.
