Drug intelligence / Profile preview
AKS-734 is an investigational veterinary immunotherapeutic candidate developed by Akston Biosciences for the treatment of chronic pain associated with canine osteoarthritis. Built on Akston's proprietary Ambifect® Fc-fusion protein platform, AKS-734 is designed to leverage the dog's own immune system to generate endogenous polyclonal antibodies against nerve growth factor (NGF). Unlike exogenous monoclonal antibodies that require frequent re-dosing, AKS-734 is formulated with an adjuvant and administered intramuscularly to induce sustained, long-acting antibody production against NGF, neutralizing its binding to the tropomyosin receptor kinase A (TrkA) receptor. This mechanism of action aims to provide durable pain relief and functional improvement with a potentially extended dosing interval (such as twice-a-year administration) and a fixed-dose regimen that scales naturally with the animal's size.
