Overview

AKT1005 is a novel, small molecule dual-function nitric oxide (NO) donor and redox modulator being developed by Akkadian Therapeutics for the treatment of preeclampsia. Chemically identified as (2,2,5,5-tetramethyl-1-pyrrolidinyloxy-3-yl)-methyl-nitrate, the compound is designed to address the reduced NO bioavailability and increased oxidative stress that characterize the maternal and fetal pathophysiology of preeclampsia. In preclinical studies, AKT1005 has demonstrated the ability to increase plasma nitrate levels, reduce hypertension and renal endotheliosis, and improve placental function by promoting angiogenesis and mitigating oxidative damage. The development of AKT1005 is supported by funding from the Massachusetts Life Sciences Center (MLSC) in collaboration with Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center (BIDMC).
