Overview

Akt2 shRNA is a short hairpin RNA designed to specifically silence the expression of the Akt2 isoform (also known as Protein Kinase B beta). In the context of oncology research, particularly in endometrial carcinoma, Akt2 is often constitutively activated and contributes to chemoresistance. By utilizing RNA interference to downregulate Akt2, researchers have demonstrated increased sensitivity of cancer cells to chemotherapeutic agents such as cisplatin, doxorubicin, and taxol. This sensitization is associated with the activation of pro-apoptotic factors like caspase-3, -6, and -9, and the inhibition of anti-apoptotic factors such as XIAP and Bcl-2. The development of this tool is primarily associated with academic research at the University of Quebec at Trois-Rivieres.
