Overview

**Aktovir** is a marketed Belarusian topical fixed-dose antiviral ointment manufactured by Belmedpreparaty. Each 4 g tube contains aciclovir 100 mg and butaminophen 40 mg. Aciclovir is selectively activated in herpesvirus-infected cells and its triphosphate metabolite inhibits herpes simplex virus DNA polymerase, blocking viral DNA synthesis. Butaminophen is a phenolic antioxidant with antiherpetic activity, although its specific antiviral mechanism has not been established. Aktovir is indicated for skin infections caused by herpes simplex virus, including primary and recurrent genital herpes.
