Overview

AL-12182 is a novel 11-oxa prostaglandin analog developed as an ocular hypotensive agent. It is the isopropyl ester prodrug of AL-12180, a potent and selective agonist of the prostaglandin F receptor (FP receptor). Topical ocular administration of AL-12182 significantly lowers intraocular pressure (IOP) by up to 40% in preclinical models, making it a candidate for the treatment of glaucoma and ocular hypertension. The drug acts primarily by activating FP receptors in ocular tissues, leading to increased outflow of aqueous humor and subsequent reduction in IOP. Preclinical studies have demonstrated its efficacy in animal models such as rabbits, cats, and nonhuman primates[1][3][5].
